Woodley Road v. ITT Sheraton
- Paradigm
represented the ownership of a 1300-room hotal in Washington
DC, which Sheraton had managed. Ownership terminated Sheraton,
claiming numerous management breaches. SHeraton countersued
based on the value of its management aggreement. Bob Patterson
testified at trial as an expert. The jury awarded ownership
significant damages (ultimately $30 million) and awarded
Sheraton nothing for its terminated agreement.
Foodmaker
v. Vons
- Paradigm
represented Foodmaker, parent of Jack-in the-Box, in its
litigation with Von's, the supplier of e-coli tainted hamburger
in the Jack-in-the-Box 1993 e-coli outbreak. Paradigm
estimated the damages to the Jack-in-the-Box system which
resulted from the outbreak. Based in part on the deposition
testimony of Paradigm's Robert Patterson, Foodmaker received
a satisfactory settlement from Von's.
Pacific Landmark v. Marriott
- Paradigm
personnel represented the owner of the 1400-room San Diego
Marriott Hotel and Marina in a suit against Marriott.
The suit alleged that Marriott had breached its fiduciary
duties through improper charges to the hotel in a number
of areas. Paradigm's Patterson testified both with
respect to liability and damages, and was the only testifying
expert representing the owner. The owner and his attorneys
consider Mr. Patterson's testimony to be instrumental in
securing a satisfactory settlement from Marriott.
